about

César Dávila-Irizarry accepted the invitation to collaborate with Arup, a design and engineering firm that creates some of the most beautiful structures around the world (Sydney Opera House, Beijing National Stadium, The Modern Wing of The Art Institute of Chicago). Dávila-Irizarry chose to write “No Matter Where You Are”, an avant-garde Puerto Rican song specially composed to be played in Arup's Soundlab, a space with a 12-speaker surround system designed for the exploration of acoustics and the relationship between sound, design, and engineering.

“No Matter Where You Are” starts out with a solid afro-latino rhythmic foundation that holds the listener's hand as one goes through different musical spaces. Dávila-Irizarry connects the past to a bilingual electronic rock present with deep atmospheric harmonies and an intimate 360° dream-like sound experience that projects the beautiful multi-cultural futurist aesthetic that is becoming a rich part of our lives.

Lyrically, Dávila-Irizarry presents a portrait of love towards someone who is not around anymore. When these lyrics contrast against the song's multicultural electronic sounds, it all portrays the reality of modern day workers eternally missing those they love that live in places they have had to leave behind.

While the song's full 360° experience is only available inside Arup's Soundlabs, the music file in bandcamp is a special 3D headphones-only mix.
